NEW YORK What a difference a year makes. At this time last year, in the heart of the COVID-19  pandemic and the midst of record wildfires along the California coast and a record-breaking hurricane season, a team of business development strategists at Reed Exhibitions decided to launch a new brand: Natural Disaster & Emergency Management Expo (NDEM). The mission of its trade show and year-round digital platform were right on point: to help organizations gain knowledge, discover tools, and connect with the professionals to ensure that they are prepared for the uncertain future, all while maintaining operational continuity and ensuring public safety in an ever-changing world.

A year later, the first NDEM Expo was held this week at New York’s Javits Center, in conjunction with the International Security Conference & Exposition (ISC) East,  featuring high-quality content thanks to conference program partners Columbia University Earth Institute National Center for Disaster Preparedness (NCDP), Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) and SBP. Day One keynoter Ted Metellus, Vice President of Events and Race Director, and Todd Metro, Head of Safety and Security, for TCS New York City Marathon, shared insights on managing safety and security operations for the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon, while Day Two’s keynote featured Craig Fugate and Pete Gaynor,  both of whom have served as FEMA Administrators, Fugate under President Barack Obama and Gaynor under President Donald Trump. Gaynor also served as acting Secretary of Homeland Security.
