MIAMI BEACH ─ The 800-room Grand Hyatt Miami Beach Convention Center Hotel has received final approval and funding, paving the way for construction to begin. The property will serve as Miami Beach’s first major convention hotel, enhancing the city’s capacity to attract trade shows.

The hotel, slated to open in late 2027, will be connected to the recently renovated Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC) via a climate-controlled skybridge.

The Grand Hyatt will include 90,000 square feet of indoor meeting space, outdoor event space, five food and beverage outlets, a Grand Hyatt Club Lounge, and retail space.

The final hurdle was Terra and Turnberry, two of South Florida’s leading real estate development firms, securing $392 million in construction financing. With pre-construction sitework already complete, this financing sets the stage for an official groundbreaking, with project delivery anticipated in late 2027.

“The addition of the Grand Hyatt Miami Beach is a game-changer for trade show executives and attendees,” David Whitaker, President & CEO of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, said. “Having a world-class, 800-room hotel directly adjacent to the Miami Beach Convention Center means a seamless experience from show floor to guest room. This kind of integration enhances the destination’s appeal for large-scale events and positions Miami Beach as an even more competitive player in the national and international trade show market.”

This milestone follows a $75 million grant awarded by the Miami Beach Redevelopment Agency, further reinforcing public and private sector confidence in the hotel’s role as a long-term economic driver for the city.

“The Miami Beach Convention Center Hotel will be a game-changer for our local economy,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner in a press release. “It’s a major investment in the long-term economic vitality of Miami Beach.”

In related news, the City of Miami Beach has extended its partnership with Oak View Group (OVG) to continue managing the MBCC, reaffirming a relationship that has spanned more than a decade.

OVG has overseen operations at the MBCC for 12 years — initially under the Spectra brand until its rebranding in 2022. The group played a pivotal role in the venue’s $640 million renovation and expansion, which transformed the center into a world-class meetings and events destination.

The revitalized MBCC now boasts 500,000 square feet of exhibition space, a 60,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom, four junior ballrooms, 84 breakout rooms, and a striking Grand Lobby flanked by bright, airy pre-function spaces.

Beyond the building, the MBCC campus is enhanced by Pride Park’s six acres of green space and three acres at Collins Canal Park, both of which provide flexible settings for outdoor events. Recent additions to the campus include Venu, an upscale private event space, and Rum Room, a 1920s-inspired restaurant that adds local flavor and charm.

“This renewed partnership underscores our ongoing commitment to the City of Miami Beach,” said Greg O’Dell, President, Venue Management, Oak View Group, in a press release. “We are proud to deliver exceptional customer experiences with a focus on innovation, sustainability and continued facility improvements. We look forward to building on the MBCC’s success and deepening our community impact.”
