UBM Expands Healthcare Portfolio in Latin America

TSE STAFF

NEW YORK — UBM further expanded its healthcare events portfolio while increasing its presence in the Latin American healthcare sector with the recent purchase of Mexico-based ExpoMed and Brazil-based Live Healthcare Exhibitions from LIVEMED and Drs. Vitor Assentuno and Raphael Gordilho, respectively. The cost was not disclosed.

“The UBM Americas business continues to pursue acquisitions that expand our portfolios into exciting growth markets,” UBM Americas CEO Scott Schulman told Trade Show Executive. “Healthcare is a strategic vertical for UBM Americas, particularly in Mexico and Brazil, where public and private healthcare spending and service markets are growing rapidly.”

Schulman added that Live Healthcare, the organizer of two events, is “a great strategic fit and complementary to Hospitalar, the leading healthcare trade show in the Americas portfolio and a driving force in the Brazilian healthcare market. With this acquisition we are reaffirming UBM’s long-term commitment to growing Brazil’s portfolio of events, driving commerce and facilitating specialized, high-quality relationships within the industries we serve.”

An annual healthcare exhibition that’s held in Mexico City, ExpoMed “is by far the leading healthcare event in Mexico and enjoys strong association support,” Schulman noted. “As a result of the acquisition, UBM now owns the leading events in four of the most attractive industry verticals in Mexico: construction (Expo CIHAC), hospitality (Abastur), renewable energy (MIREC) and healthcare (ExpoMed).”
