Trade Show Executive Dashboard Preview: TSE Research Indicates Recovery from COVID in Q3 2023

CHICAGO — The analysis conducted by the Trade Show Executive (TSE) research team found significant increases in all metrics measured in the Q3 Dashboard, signaling that the trade show industry is well past the pandemic crisis and is thriving.

Thirty-seven trade shows expanded in net square footage (nsf), with 16 recording double-digit growth and two recording triple-digit growth. Thirty-four shows grew in the exhibitor category, and 16 saw double-digit improvements in growth. Where attendees are concerned, 38 shows had total attendance rise, while 23 measured growth in the double-digits. Twenty-eight trade shows increased professional attendance while 15 of them experienced double-digit improvement.

TSE’s quarterly Dashboard gives show organizers a fast read on trade show performance by providing traditional metrics of show growth including nsf of exhibits, exhibitors, attendees, and professional attendance as well as other significant accomplishments.

Found in the December 2023 issue, the Q3 Dashboard contains metrics for 48 shows and reveals an 8.2% expansion of exhibit nsf, a 4.2% increase in exhibitors, a 6.2% growth in total attendance and a 4.2% boost in professional attendance. Excluding outliers and shows without a consecutive two-year comparison, Q3 shows totaled 3,689,984 nsf, 14,659 exhibiting companies, 232,020 total attendees and 92,651 professional attendees.

RE+, held in Las Vegas in September, reported great success with high numbers across all metrics. The clean energy show increased exhibit space 69.6% to 476,880 nsf while improving the number of exhibitors by 67.8% to 1,374. Total attendance grew by 38.9% to 38,507. Another noteworthy show was FABTECH 2023, which grew its exhibit nsf by 35%, its exhibitors by 38% and its total attendance by 35.9%, resulting in well-rounded growth for all aspects of the show.
