Trade Show Executive Wins Maggie Award for Best Trade Publication

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Los Angeles, CA – Trade Show Executive (TSE) notched its first Maggie Award from the Western Publishers Association for its December 2013 issue.

The Maggies are presented annually to magazines that set the gold standard for excellence in the previous year. TSE was joined on the podium at the May 2 Maggie Awards Gala in Los Angeles by such venerable and well-known titles as Motor TrendVariety and California Lawyer.

More than 500 publications submitted their best articles and issues of 2013 for consideration for the coveted industry award.

TSE was specifically honored in the category of Best Trade Publication – Circulation Under 50,000 and was a finalist in the Best Supplement category for the TSE Fastest 50 directory. It was the first time TSE has won a Maggie.

“We are very honored to win this award because it is a tribute to the strong team we have in place at Trade Show Executive,” said Darlene Gudea, president of Trade Show Executive Media Group, who accepted the elegant award on behalf of the TSE staff. “I am particularly pleased that every member of our team had their fingerprints on this particular issue and can share in the accolades.”

She noted that the recognition goes not only to TSE’s high-profile editors, writers and members of TSE’s Exposition Forecasting Board, but also to those plugging away in the background including the creative director and those gathering and triple-checking the statistical reports and directories.  Gudea said, “It was a poignant moment, as the December cover story on Infocomm’s Jason McGraw, 2013 Chair of IAEE, was the last Power Lunch penned by columnist Bob Dallmeyer, who passed away unexpectedly in February. Bob was a key member of our team and earned this award as well.” Gudea also thanked Richard Simon, founder and owner of Trade Show Executive Media Group, who had the foresight to launch the magazine and who has given the team his unwavering support and creative ideas. She also recognized the ad sales staff and event team whose contributions have also made the magazine a viable publication with the resources to produce good editorial and design.

The December issue was TSE’s traditional “Special IAEE Issue,” which was released at the International Association of Exhibitions and Events Expo! Expo! in Houston. Feature articles included TSE’s unique annual report on executive compensation trends in the trade show industry and the Research Roundup info-graphics report. It also included TSE’s  Dashboard of Monthly Trade Show Metrics, the Trending & Spending column, Show Manager Playbook, Done Deals, The Zoom Calendar, as well as the latest news.

“The Maggie Awards is a very competitive awards program in general, and winning in the ‘Best Trade Publication’ category seemed to be a long shot,” said Gudea. “We were surprised and humbled by the recognition from our peers.”
