NEW YORK — After 118 years in New York City, the $27 billion toy industry’s most important trade show announced that it will move to New Orleans after its 2025 show, for a three-year commitment.

Toy Fair (aka the North American International Toy Fair) took place Sept. 30-Oct. 3, 2023, at the Javits Center in New York City after a three-year hiatus, attracting more than 1,000 toymakers. The association had just shifted the trade show to the fall in response to the needs of manufacturers and retailers; it had traditionally been held in February.

A number of factors weighed into The Toy Association’s decision, among them timing, high-quality space availability, access to transportation and affordability for exhibitors and attendees, according to Steve Pasierb, President & CEO of The Toy Association.

“New Orleans has state-of-the-art facilities including a brand-new airport, renowned restaurants, museums, music, an array of event spaces, and a strong collaborative partnership between the convention center, New Orleans & Company and the business community, making it a perfect, welcoming fit for Toy Fair,” Pasierb said. “We are confident in delivering a high-quality, energetic and seamless Toy Fair experience over the next four shows, in the same way we have been delivering on this promise for more than 100 years.”

The Toy Association expects to bring 20,000 attendees from around the world to New Orleans each year, working with representatives of the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and New Orleans & Company to seal the deal.

“New Orleans is globally celebrated as a center of creativity and innovation — a perfect fit for Toy Fair,” Walt Leger, III, President and CEO of New Orleans & Company, said in an article in Biz New Orleans. “Our teams are among the most respected in the industry and their work in attracting this event will sustain thousands of jobs, result in tens of millions of dollars in direct economic impact and generate millions in local and state taxes.”

The next Toy Fair will take place March 1-4, 2025, at the Javits Center in New York City. The dates will change to January after the move; the confirmed dates are January 17-20, 2026; January 9-12, 2027; and January 15-18, 2028.
