SME Adds New Expo, Switches WESTEC to Biennial

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Dearborn, MI – The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) converted its annual WESTEC Advanced Productivity Exposition to a biennial schedule that will alternate with AeroDef Manufacturing, a new trade show serving the defense and aerospace industries.

The new schedule took effect in March with the completion of the WESTEC 2010 show in Los Angeles. The next WESTEC will be held March 27-29, 2012 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. AeroDef Manufacturing will launch April 5-7, 2011 at the Anaheim Convention Center.

The reconfiguration of SME’s events in Southern California was aimed at addressing WESTEC exhibitor preferences while maintaining an annual presence in the critical aerospace and defense sectors. “SME has a long history of producing quality West Coast events…and has built a strong audience base of manufacturing personnel, especially in key industries such as aerospace and defense,” said Mark Tomlinson, executive director and general manager for SME.

Tomlinson said exhibitors at WESTEC, which caters to a wide range of manufacturing sectors, expressed a desire for a biennial show. The 2009 WESTEC encompassed 143,065 net square feet of exhibit space.
