Reed Expands in Housewares Industry and in China through Joint Venture

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Beijing – Reed Exhibitions has formed a joint venture with a leading Chinese show organizer to produce established gift events and explore other opportunities in the bustling Pearl River Delta region.

Reed and Shenzhen Sinoexpo Exhibition Co. Ltd., announced on July 2 the launch of Reed Huabo Exhibition (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., and the naming of Shenzhen President Jiang Chengwen as its managing director.

Jiang said the move would bolster the current slate of Shenzhen’s shows in the gift market, including the flagship China (Shenzhen) International Gifts, Handicrafts, Watches & Houseware Fair, which takes place in the Spring and Fall. The company also stages the China International Gifts, Premium & Houseware Fair twice per year in Beijing.

For Reed, the move expands its beachhead in both the Pearl River Delta and the Chinese gift and housewares sectors. “The gift and homewares industry is one of the core strategic markets for Reed Exhibitions worldwide,” said Mike Rusbridge, chairman and CEO of Reed Exhibitions. “It makes good sense for us to invest in these leading Chinese exhibitions previously run by Shenzhen Sinoexpo and at the same time to invest in the burgeoning Pearl River Delta region.”

Rusbridge added that the move gives Reed a presence in all of China’s major economic regions: the Yangtze Delta, the Bohai Rim and now the Pearl River Delta. Reed is the world’s largest show organizer and has a portfolio of over 460 events in 34 countries
