New Cygnus Reorganization Ties Shows, Content Together

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Fort Atkinson, WI — Cygnus Business Media is restructuring its media and trade show operations into four industry groups to better accommodate engagement between consumers and advertisers.  CEO John French announced July 14 that the first of the company’s new “affinity” groups, Cygnus Aviation, had just gotten off the ground and that the other three groups – Agriculture, Public Safety & Security and Business & Construction – will be launched over the next 18 months.

“This is not a reorganization of groups,” said French, “This new organizational architecture will enable our customers to more fully engage with Cygnus and our audiences.”

Cygnus Aviation will be led by Executive Vice President of Aviation Pat Nadler, who joined the company last year as vice president of business development. He will oversee all aspects of sales, marketing and content for trade shows, print and online assets, and databases in the aviation sector.

Cygnus Aviation organizes Aviation Industry Expo, which will take place next February 23-25 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Trade show conferences and content will be led by a vice president of content, who will also be in charge of digital and print assets and will report to Nadler. Vice presidents will also be appointed to oversee sales and marketing.

“This new organizational architecture brings together powerful mediums, which will be more effective in gaining market intelligence and data,” said French.

French says the new structure completely removes organizational barriers among the exhibition, print and digital operations.

A separate unit will handle operations for all Cygnus trade shows. “Operations will be horizontal across our network groups while content, sales and marketing for all of our platforms will be integrated into one outlet,” said French. “Our show group will be an asset to our print and online groups, and the reciprocal will also be true.”

Cygnus emerged from bankruptcy reorganization last Fall at the same time  French was brought in from Penton Media, Inc. where he had been CEO.

French last month brought in former AOL executive Tom Kohn as executive vice president of digital to develop the company’s overall digital delivery strategy. No further executive moves were announced, but French told employees that the new organizational moves would result in more jobs, not cutbacks.
