Margaret Ma Named Vice President of UBM Asia

Shanghai, China – Margaret Mahas been promoted to vice president of UBM Asia Ltd, filling a position that had been vacant since Mike Tan’s promotion to senior vice president back in 2011. Ma will also take a seat on the UBM Asia board of directors.

She joined UBM Asia in April 2009 as managing director of UBM China, and is based in Shanghai. She created and grew the subsidiary, which is on track to generate US$65 million in revenue in 2015. She also sourced and completed one of UBM Asia’s most successful acquisitions in the last 15 years, the Shanghai International Children-Baby-Maternity Industry Expo, running this year from July 22-24. The exhibition will span over 100,000 net square meters of exhibit space (about 1.08 million net square feet), filling all the exhibition halls in the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. The show has also been geo-cloned in India, Singapore and Turkey.

UBM China’s growth has also been boosted by other acquisitions, such as Dentech China and Medtec China, and strong organic growth in aviation, non-woven and technology events.

Recently, Ma assumed responsibility for the eMedia Asia business which includes the China International Optoelectronic Expo (CIOE) in Shenzhen, IIC China and the print and online titles of EE Times Asia, EDN China and ESM China.

She earned an MBA from Oxford Brooks Business School along with certifications in project management, information system management and web development.

Jimé Essink, president & CEO of UBM Asia, said that in joining the board of directors, Ma will bring valuable experience about mainland China as well as deep insights into the technology sector.
