Malaysia Opens New Borneo Convention Hall to Asia Pacific Market

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Kuching City, Malaysia – The newest convention center in the Asia Pacific market opened along the banks of Malaysia’s Sarawak River on October 18 by hosting a site visit for VIPs from Australia and Great Britain.

“The Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) is a new landmark in town that can cater for large scale exhibitions of up to 250 multi-tiered booths and wedding receptions of up to 200 tables,” said the center’s chief executive, Trevor McCartney.

The new facility offers 14 meeting rooms and four exhibit halls that can be combined for a total of 2,793 square metres (30,063 square feet). It is built in the oval shape of the local ririk leaf and is designed to funnel rain water from the roof into the landscaping irrigation system.

Kuching City is located in Sarawak, one of two states on the island of Borneo and the largest in Malaysia. It has been the center of Malaysia’s timber and petroleum industries. The state government has been seeking to develop the services and manufacturing sectors.
