Awesome Con brings a comic and pop culture convention to the capital region, attracting tens of thousands of fans to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center for the three-day event. Mayor Muriel Bowser officially proclaimed June 16, 2023 “Awesome Con Day,” in honor of the show’s milestone anniversary.
Over the last 10 years, Awesome Con has hosted more than 200 special guests, more than 2,500 panels and special events, and partnered with 1,500 exhibitors and 2,000 creators. This year the convention brought more than 61,000 attendees, 220 exhibitors and 400 artists together on 808,000 net square feet of show floor dedicated to pop culture and comics.
The convention offers a variety of event programming for all ages, including autographs and photo ops with stars and figures from pop culture, a book fair and science fair that featured live demos, and Pride Alley, where attendees could play bingo, participate in meetups and discuss the intersection of pop culture and self-identity.
“We spent the weekend reflecting on a decade of innovation, community, and boundless imagination at Awesome Con’s momentous 10th anniversary celebration in Washington, DC. This remarkable milestone not only celebrates 10 years of unforgettable experiences but also pays tribute to the enduring power of passion and fandom. From humble beginnings to becoming a pinnacle gathering for geeks, together with our incredible community, we have forged unforgettable memories, embraced the spirit of unbridled creativity, and continuously pushed the boundaries of what a pop culture convention can be. We extend our deepest appreciation to our attendees, exhibitors, and partners for joining us on this incredible adventure,” Lauren Dabb, Comics Portfolio Vice President at LeftField Media, said.
Awesome Con will return to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center March 8-10, 2024.
