Hotel Strike Averted in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS Wynn Resorts, MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment have reached tentative deals with the Las Vegas Culinary and Bartenders Unions.

In total, deals with the three casino resort companies involve about 30,000 workers. Five-year contracts have been negotiated at each resort company.

The threat of the strike loomed with several trade shows in the city including SEMA which will run from October 31 through November 3, gathering 2,200 exhibitors and approximately 160,000 attendees.

The city is also in preparation to host their inaugural Formula One sporting event which is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of fans to the city. The racing event takes place November 16-18.

This year it had the possibility of a Sodexo/Centerplate strike at the Las Vegas Convention Center. In March, a deal was struck.

MGM’s tentative five-year deal covers approximately 25,400 workers across eight MGM properties in Las Vegas — Aria Resort and Casino, Bellagio Hotel & Casino, Excalibur Hotel & Casino, Luxor Hotel, Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, MGM Grand, New York-New York Hotel & Casino and Park MGM Las Vegas.

Caesars Entertainment with venues and properties including Caesars Forum, Caesars Palace, Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, Horseshoe Las Vegas, Paris Las Vegas, the Cromwell Las Vegas, The LINQ Hotel + Experience, Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort & Casino and Harrah’s also reached a tentative deal with the labor unions.

The tentative five-year contract for 10,000 Caesars employees includes wage increases in the first year, and funds for healthcare and pensions.

As of November 11, Wynn Resorts was the last to come to an agreement for its properties Wynn Las Vegas and Encore Resort. Its new five-year agreement covers 5,000 employees.
