CHICAGO — Informa Markets announced the launch of a brand-new exclusive event — the Waste Leadership Summit — which will complement the organization’s existing WasteExpo show and Global Waste Management Symposium.
The new summit fills a gap in the market for a high-level and intimate networking event while providing an environment for sparking innovation and shaping policy through impactful conversations. It also reflects the trade show industry’s growing focus on high-value, ultra-curated events to complement their flagship shows.
“The world is changing, and the needs of the industry are also shifting,” said Rita Ugianskis, Vice President of Waste at Informa Markets. “We identified an increasing need for content and discussion, and collaboration formats, and the decision to transition WasteExpo to a biennial format opened up an ideal opportunity to launch a complementary summit in alternate years.
“We observed that while executives and leaders had various forums for networking and business development, there was a notable absence of platforms specifically designed to facilitate their direct involvement in policy formation discussions, regulatory framework development and industry standard-setting processes.”
Strengthening the Portfolio with Complementary Events
The new summit is a complementary event to WasteExpo and the biennial Global Waste Management Symposium. One of the overarching goals of the Waste Leadership Summit is to create an environment where senior executives can help shape policies and regulations for their industry.
“By bringing together C-suite executives, municipal authority leaders and key investors, the Waste Leadership Summit facilitates the conversations and connections that drive industry advancement,” Ugianskis said. “Participants will gain valuable insights into market dynamics, technological innovations and operational excellence while developing the relationships necessary for business growth.”

It also serves as an opportunity for business development, relationship building and strategic discussions designed for leadership-level interaction.
“By focusing on this legislative nexus and creating structured touchpoints for executive engagement, we’ve developed an event that serves a unique purpose alongside the other events in the waste sector,” Ugianskis said. “Simultaneously, we recognize the fundamental importance of nurturing ongoing buyer-seller relationships within the waste management ecosystem. Our commitment extends to providing industry professionals with consistent, annual opportunities to forge meaningful connections, exchange knowledge and conduct business transactions that drive innovation and growth across the sector.”
The launch of the summit ensures that industry professionals have consistent opportunities to connect, learn and do business every year.
“Our three-pronged approach now serves the waste management industry across all dimensions,” Ugianskis said. “WasteExpo continues as our flagship product showcase, focusing on operational solutions and technologies. The Global Waste Management Symposium maintains its biennial technical focus. The new Waste Leadership Summit establishes a premium environment specifically for executive-level networking, strategic discussions and business development.”
Strong Association Partnership
Waste Leadership Summit will also be held in collaboration with the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA), which is the exclusive education provider at WasteExpo.
“As the premier trade association representing private waste and recycling companies across all 50 states, NWRA brings nearly 700 member organizations to this partnership, including publicly traded and privately owned local, regional, and Fortune 500 national and international companies,” Ugianskis said. “NWRA’s involvement ensures the summit will benefit from their deep industry knowledge and advocacy experience. Their participation will help create an environment where senior leaders can share perspectives on critical industry challenges, engage directly with policymakers, and connect with peers on key waste management issues. This partnership helps ensure continuity in industry engagement during the years between WasteExpo events.”
