Los Angeles, CA – Informa Exhibitions added another dimension to its construction and real estate portfolio by acquiring the two-show Dwell on Design brand from Dwell Media.
Dwell on Design consists of annual shows in Los Angeles and New York geared toward upscale and trendy interior designers. The shows will become part of Informa Exhibitions U.S., Construction and Real Estate, which was known as Hanley Wood Exhibitions until it was acquired by Britain’s Informa Exhibitions in 2014.
Hanley Wood developed a solid roster of trade shows for the nuts-and-bolts construction sector over the years, including such stalwart events as SURFACES, World of Concrete and the International Roofing Expo. Dwell on Design covers a wide range of upscale furnishings, technology and other finishing touches for the home, and Informa sees the potential for a higher profile for the brand.
“Dwell Media has established Dwell on Design as the largest design event in the U.S.,” said Rick McConnell, president of Informa Exhibitions U.S., Construction & Real Estate at the Los Angeles Dwell on Design in late May at the Los Angeles Convention Center. “The acquisition strategically positions Informa to be the most significant producer of design and construction exhibitions in the nation. And we are excited to partner with Dwell Media to make Dwell on Design the must-attend design event worldwide.”
The Los Angeles edition of Dwell on Design grew to a record 326,000 net square feet and drew a record crowd of 32,428. The smaller New York show takes place October 1-3 at the Skylight Clarkson Square in the upscale SoHo area of Manhattan.
The acquisition was made under a partnership agreement between Informa and San Francisco-based Dwell Media, LLC in which Informa takes possession of the shows with the aim to expand their reach. The expansion will boost Dwell Media and its flagship title Dwell into a worldwide presence in the design field.
