BARCELONA—A bellwether for the entire trade show and business events industry, IBTM World has announced that its show, which takes place Nov. 28-30, 2023, at the Fira de Barcelona, is at 85% capacity for exhibitors — significantly ahead of both this time last year and 2019 levels.

The trade show organizer, RX, is expecting to attract 3,000 destinations and other suppliers, along with 15,000 industry professionals from more than 100 countries.

Several destinations have increased their presence at the trade show, and others are returning for the first time since the pandemic.

From the Americas, Mexico, Costa Rica and Los Angeles are returning for the first time since 2019. From Asia, Jakarta will make its debut, and Hong Kong and Macao are both back and bigger. Three exhibitors from the MENA region — Jordan, Morocco and Abu Dhabi — have increased their footprints, while a sponsorship with Morocco will bring its trademark hospitality to the Hosted Buyer Lounge.

In Europe, Antwerp will have a larger presence than before, and France and Paris will take larger stands to promote opportunities around the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Barcelona will also be strongly represented, and London will launch a new guide demystifying the process of organizing an event after Brexit.

On the hotel side, major international brands attending include Hilton; first-time exhibitor Choice Hotels International; H10 Hotels; and Melia Hotels International.

“The resurgence in exhibitor numbers illustrates the importance of IBTM World in creating a platform for connection and community,” Vasyl Zhygalo, IBTM World’s Portfolio Director, said. “The vast and diverse exhibitor participation represents more opportunities to do business, as well as indicating the robustness of the global business events sector. We’re thrilled to see the return of several exhibitors as well as welcoming new ones, and we look forward an exciting trade show where attendees come together to shape the future of business events.”

A robust conference program will include dozens of sessions in six tracks on topics ranging from marketing to innovation to social responsibility. A highlight will be the Main Stage presentation of this year’s IBTM World Trends Report by Alistair Turner, Managing Director of EIGHT PR & Marketing. The report will cover hot topics in the industry, such as how AI could lead to solutions around inclusion and sustainability and how changes in technology and demographics are creating hyper-personalization and changes in delegate behavior.
