HIMSS Commits to McCormick Place for 2015, 2019

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Chicago, IL – The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) announced it would hold its Annual Conference & Exhibition in Chicago in 2015 and 2019.

The announcement rated a news conference and statements of appreciation from the Illinois governor’s office and Mayor Richard Daley, who called it a salute to Chicago’s importance in the technology and healthcare industries.

For the medical meetings and exhibitions industry, however, it was another positive sign of progress in the reforms of the work rules and costs connected to Chicago’s massive McCormick Place.

HIMSS was one of the major trade associations that had backed away from McCormick Place due to the cost of exhibiting. H. Stephen Lieber, president and CEO of the organization, said HIMSS decided to sign a deal for 2015 and 2019 based on positive exhibitor feedback after the 2010 show. “We are happy to be back in Chicago, the Midwest location in our conference rotation,” he said. “It is an excellent and accessible place to do business and, with the changes now in place, we look forward to HIMSS15 and HIMSS19 here in Chicago.”

The 2009 event at McCormick Place encompassed 374,540 net square feet and ranked 42nd on the Trade Show Executive Gold 100 rankings of the largest U.S. trade shows. The 2011 conference takes place February 20-24 in Orlando.
