Washington – The Green Venue Report survey has launched and is open until April 30. The survey is for convention and exhibition centers worldwide to contribute to the 2017 report. The annual survey consists of 150 questions developed by an advisory board of sustainability experts and the results will be released in July as a resource for trade show organizers looking for a green facility for future events. Trade Show Executive is an official media supporter of the report.
The survey questionnaire will be available from March 15 through April 30 at www.greenvenuereport.com. The survey respondents will remain anonymous, and participants will be contacted to ensure accuracy of the results.
The survey is used to gather data from convention and exhibition centers worldwide to create the Green Venue Report. This report informs organizers exact details on how green a venue is and includes statistics regarding landfill diversions, water and power savings. It also includes any unique attributes such as rooftop solar panels and local food sourcing by the catering department. One hundred percent of the centers indicated holding some type of sustainability certification or participation in sustainability programs and initiatives lead by their city, regional government or local grassroots organizations.
A new development in recent years has been the increased tracking of waste diversion on an event-specific basis. The 2016 survey reported that 79% of responding centers could provide show organizers with a breakdown on how much trash and leftover material was recycled or otherwise diverted from the city dump. That was up from 72% in 2015. Those statistics were provided at no charge to organizers by 61% of centers, compared to 57% the previous year.
And more centers seem to be taking sustainability seriously given last year’s solid increase in the number of in-house “green teams” that plan and oversee the sustainability programs. Such teams were present in 84% of respondent venues, compared to 77% in 2015. The average size of the team rosters also increased from 11 staff members in 2015 to 18 in 2016.
The sustainability movement in the trade show industry has been going on for several years and shows no sign of green fatigue or hitting a creativity wall, which could mean some even more encouraging statistics from the 2017 Green Venue Report.
