Houston, TX – The Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau assigned Executive Vice President Selice Caldwell to fill in for GHCVB President Jordy Tollett, who took a leave of absence July 13. Tollett, a long-time presence in Houston’s convention industry, directed the city’s Convention & Entertainment Facilities Department for more than 20 years under four mayoral administrations. He headed the CVB since 1998. He was granted a leave by the board of directors to handle an unspecified condition and was expected to use banked vacation time during his absence.
Tollett has been a controversial leader of the bureau but was credited with increasing the city’s hotel room night bookings to 650,000 annually. His five-year contract is up in February.
The announcement came less than a week after Tollett and the bureau announced that Houston would be the site of Meeting Professional International’s 2008 Professional Education Conference-North America.
