Germany’s MEDICA 2016 Sets Exhibitor Mark

Dusseldorf, Germany – More than 5,000 exhibitors combined to set a new show record at this month’s MEDICA 2016 in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The exhibitor roster totaled 5,289 companies, including 413 from the U.S., and filled 19 exhibit halls. The co-located COMPAMED drew another 799 exhibitors, pushing the overall total to 6,088.

Attendance also surged this year, particularly in terms of international visitors. “Our specialist visitors came from 135 different countries, with emerging Asian countries particularly well represented,” said Joachim Schafer, Managing Director of Messe Dusseldorf. “Around 60% were international visitors, which is a new high.”

Schafer added that 80% of attendees wielded a “significant” level of purchasing authority for their respective organizations. “Medical technology companies are focusing on top decision makers on the demand side, particularly those from hospital management and purchasing bodies,” he said. “MEDICA fully lived up to this trend.”

Show organizers pointed to the rapid advancement of digital technology for stoking a boom in new “must have” products for hospitals that helped fill the aisles during the November 14-17 event. COMPAMED, which focuses on particularly high-tech products, attracted 19,000 attendees. “The digitalization wave is really taking hold in the health industry, and in almost all medical disciplines, as well as in the processes implicated in the outpatient and hospital sectors,” Show Director Horst Geisen said.

Next year’s show takes place November 13-17.
