ARNOLD, Md.—Wayne Crawford, who will join Core-apps, LLC, a technology platform for the events industry, November 1 as Vice President of Sales, competed with the company in the mobile sector for a number of years before taking a job with the firm.

Obviously there are no hard feelings on either side. Core-apps hired him in October, and Crawford is a happy guy.

The 57-year-old Crawford will manage a 10-person sales team for Core-apps, which among other things designs interactive maps that enable attendees to negotiate the convention floor. In addition, the apps can schedule interactive staff meetings, handle session check-in for CEU credits, display exhibitor and event listings, and alert attendees to comprehensive sponsorship opportunities.

Core-apps can serve over 150,000 users or less than 100.

The apps also allow companies to scan attendee badges, enabling companies to follow up on sales leads.

Jay Tokosch, Core-apps CEO, said hiring Crawford was an easy decision. “Wayne is known in the industry for running a team that sells solutions versus features. That philosophy fit with how we approach our customer partnerships,” Tokosch said.

Crawford declined to disclose many of the ideas he has for the company. But he wants to attract additional clients, especially corporate types and enhance the usage of Core-apps among existing customers.

“If they are using one app, I want them to use more to grow their business and increase their revenues. In addition, I want to develop new functions and new features for our apps,”  he said.

Crawford is an entrepreneur.

He started Wayne Manor Group, a one-person technology consultancy in the Washington, D.C., area. One client was Orlando, Fla.-based Convention News Television LLC, where he was Vice President of Sales.

Crawford, a graduate of the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree in business marketing, also has worked for or had as clients a2z, Inc., Clarion Events, and NXTcomm LLC. Crawford was a vice president of sales at a2z and Clarion Events.

“I’m excited about Core-apps. It’s a great company. It has a lot of revenue and a solid profit margin,” Crawford said.
