Former Surfaces Executive Christopher Davis Dies Suddenly

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Anaheim, CA – D. Christopher Davis, president and CEO of the World Floor Covering Association (WFCA) and former top executive of the Surfaces trade show, died February 22 after a sudden illness, the WFCA announced.

A memorial service will be held in Southern California some time in March for Davis, who oversaw all aspects of Surfaces between 1995 and 2000 and led the negotiations for the sale of the show to Hanley Wood Exhibitions.

The WFCA said the sale for more than $40 million included retention of the WFCA sponsorship rights for a minimum of 25 years. Under Hanley Wood, Surfaces was No. 59 on the most recent Trade Show Executive Gold 100 rankings and covered 309,793 net square feet in 2012.

Prior to joining the WFCA, Davis worked as a journalist and as president and CEO of the convention and visitors bureaus in Corpus Christi, TX and Long Beach and Oakland, CA during the 1980s.
