Secaucus, NJ – Tom Kemp, a former chairman and CEO of Penton Media, was named CEO and chairman of Northstar Travel Media (NTM), the publisher of Meetings & Conventions and other magazines geared to the hospitality industry. Northstar is part of the Boston Ventures portfolio.
Kemp replaced George Hundley, who became chairman of ProfessionalTravelGuide.com, a consumer travel website associated with Northstar.
Kemp’s appointment came roughly a year after he launched Oakstreet Media, LLC as a platform for the acquisition of low-and-middle-market B-to-B properties.
Kemp told Trade Show Executive that events would play a role in his growth strategy for NTM. “One of my goals would be to expand the position of Northstar Travel Media in face-to-face events, including conferences and trade shows,” he said.
Kemp’s experience in the exhibitions and B-to-B sector stretches back more than 30 years. After spending more than 20 years at Miller Freeman, Inc., Kemp joined Penton Media in 1996 as president and chief operating officer. He was a managing director at Veronis Suhler Stevenson from 2004 until 2008 when he formed Oakstreet Media.
