San Juan Capistrano, Calif. — Emerald Expositions Events Inc. has entered the hosted-buyer arena by acquiring Connecting Point Marketing Group (CPMG), a New Hampshire organizer of hosted-buyer events held across the U.S.
The 19-member staff of CPMG will join Emerald, including Senior Vice President/General Manager Nancy Splaine, who will report to Emerald CEO and President David Loechner.
“Nancy and the CPMG team have built a great business with an impressive track record of organic growth,” said Loechner. “We are very pleased to add their best-in-class capabilities, industry relationships, and technologies to the Emerald portfolio.”
The deal gives Emerald its first hosted-buyer conferences. Emerald’s stable of events also includes more than 55 trade shows and other events totaling about 6.5 million net square feet of exhibit space.
Terms of the sale were not announced. The investment banking firm JEGI acted as an adviser to CMPG and its equity partner, Corridor Capital, LLC. Corridor CEO Craig Enenstein called CMPG a “thought leader in the hosted trade event business” and predicted a growth spurt under the new ownership. “We believe that the scale and scope of Emerald’s operations and their commitment to preserving the culture of CPMG will only help them improve this offering and reach a broader audience,” he said.
Splaine, along with Chief Operating Officer Kim Haulk, launched CPMG in 2004. The firm’s portfolio consists of nine events serving the healthcare, restaurant, hospitality, retail and grocery industries. The events take place at major resort hotels in Austin, Nashville, and the Orlando and Phoenix areas. They are supported by proprietary CPMG technology that customizes attendee experiences and provides data insights.
