Disney Exec to Lead Portfolio of MAGIC Shows

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Woodland Hills, CA – Advanstar Communications selected Chris DeMoulin, an alumnus of the Disney empire,  to be the new president of MAGIC International.

DeMoulin, who was also named executive vice president of Advanstar’s Fashion Group, is a former senior vice president of Disney’s $23 billion Consumer Products Group and was most recently an executive with the film production company Walden Media.

De Moulin replaced Laura McConnell, who left Advanstar in September after 10 years with the company to pursue other opportunities.

While at Disney, DeMoulin focused on strategic planning and the execution of business and product development for Disney Licensing in North America. His job made him a regular customer at MAGIC, which Advanstar CEO Joe Loggia said gave him a head start in his new position. “Both exhibitors and retailers attend the MAGIC Marketplace to form business relationships,” Loggia said. “Chris’s strong background in developing alliances with both fashion manufacturers and retailers make him the ideal candidate to lead this charge.”

DeMoulin’s assignment at Advanstar will be to make MAGIC and the Fashion Group an asset for exhibitors and retailers seeking to create and strengthen such alliances. He will also ensure they have every opportunity to use the company’s shows to network and make business deals. “As a customer of MAGIC and Advanstar’s licensing show, I knew what tremendous assets they could be to the development and growth of our business,” DeMoulin said. “MAGIC is still the most cost-effective way of meeting and networking with every key retail decision-maker in the country.”
