MUMBAI — The inaugural Design Mumbai, being held November 6-9, is billed as “India’s first design show with an international perspective and brand presence.” Organizers are expecting 80 exhibitors (who participate by invite only), ranging from established global design brands to local talent, and more than 8,000 hosted trade visitors from the interior design, architecture, furniture and home decoration industries.

The organizers believe the time is right to launch this show, with India’s interior design segment expected to grow to $51.4 billion by 2028.

“India is experiencing a design renaissance,” Ian Rudge, Co-Founder of Design Mumbai, said. “The global design community increasingly recognizes India’s rich heritage and contemporary design eye. The country is seeing a spike in demand for contemporary and sustainable design, fueled by rapid urbanization, the expansion of luxury real estate and a booming consumer market with a taste for design-led products.”

On top of that, he said, the international design world is looking for fresh markets. “Mumbai, as India’s creative and financial hub, is perfectly positioned to host this international dialogue.”

The organizers have assembled a professional advisory panel to curate exhibitors. At every turn, attendees will be greeted with commissioned installations and exclusive product launches, all representing modern Indian design.

The show’s partners will be at the heart of the experience. Presenting partner JSW Paints will transform Jio World Garden into what it is calling “a vibrant celebration of color and creativity.”

A concept hospitality space by THE Park Hotels in collaboration with Studio Saar will take a fresh new look at hospitality design. Design of all kinds will be included; Royal Enfield will be showcasing the brand-new Classic 350 motorcycle.

Educational sessions will focus on timely topics like the role of smart tech and generative AI in design, the role of circular design in production, and the latest insights from contemporary color psychology.

“Our goal with Design Mumbai is to deliver top-tier quality and originality to the architecture and design community,” said Rudge. “We aim to provide a unique experience and a diverse mix of content, whether attendees are specifying for a private residential project or a commercial venture such as a hotel or restaurant.”
