Cygnus Acquires Emergency Vehicles

TSE STAFF

Westport, CT – Cygnus Business Media is already the dominant player in the fire and emergency services niche, but with today’s acquisition of Summer Communications and Expo Productions, Cygnus now has an even bigger piece of the emergency pie.   Summer Communications produces EMS Expo, EMS Magazine, Advanced Rescue Technology, Frontline First Responder magazine and accompanying websites. The firm, based in Van Nuys, CA  was founded in 1972 by Carol Summer, who is the Publisher and Executive Editor.

Jeff Price, President of Cygnus Expositions, says that at 90,000 net square feet of exhibit space, EMS Expo is the largest show of its kind for emergency service professionals. ”Carol Summer and her team have done a great job building the show and comprehensive educational conference to where it is today.  With the additional resources and synergies that Cygnus brings to the table, this show will grow even further in importance to the industry.”

Cygnus Expositions produces the Firehouse Expo (July 26-31, 2005 at the Baltimore Convention Center) and Firehouse World (February 19-23, 2006 at the San Diego Convention Center).  Together, the two shows span over 200,000 net square feet of exhibit space and draw more than 20,000 fire, rescue and EMS professionals annually.

“This important acquisition complements our existing Firehouse brand portfolio, and offers additional synergies within our Law Enforcement Group,” says Cygnus Business Media President & CEO Paul Mackler.  Cygnus recently announced the launch of Enforcement Expo, a trade show and conference aimed at law enforcement professionals (September 8-10, 2005 at the I-X Center in Cleveland).

EMS Magazine was launched in 1972. “EMS Magazine, EMS Expo, Advanced Rescue Technology and Frontline First Responder have proved valuable to our customers and the industry since we first began producing them,” says Summer Communications Founder, Publisher and Executive Editor Carol Summer.  “Having Cygnus acquire them and incorporate them into an already established portfolio of emergency service and fire rescue media products is very fortunate.  The properties will continue to flourish with a large media company supporting them.”

Cygnus says all employees of Summer Communications will remain in California. Reach Jeff Price at (952) 808-3309 or jeff.price@cygnusexpos.com; Carol Summer at (818) 786-4367 or csummer@emsmagazine.com.
