CIC Re-Bids Management Contract

SANDI CAIN, NEWS EDITOR

McLean, VA – After a year-long independent evaluation of the current management of the Convention Industry Council (CIC), the executive committee voted to distribute an RFP (Request for Proposal) in January for management of the organization. Earier,  a volunteer task force of the CIC board recommended the action to the executive committee.

“The CIC board believes periodic evaluation of management options is healthy, advisable and in the best interests of CIC,” said 2005-06 CIC Chair Thomas M. Mobley Jr. who is manager and CEO of the Washington, DC Convention Center but will be joining Global Spectrum as senior vice president of convention centers in mid-January.

The current contract, held by McLean, VA-based Association Management Group, has been extended on an interim basis for day-to-day administration and staffing. In addition, CIC President and CEO Mary Power’s contract has been extended on the same basis. She will continue the management of the strategic direction of CIC and its programs, including the Certified Meeting Professional program and APEX.

CIC is accepting proposals for all qualified bidders, including the current contract holder. The board hopes to have a new management contract in place by May.

The Convention Industry Council is made up of 30 member organizations that represent more than 100,000 people and 16,500 firms and properties in the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry.
