Dallas, TX – Al Rojas, an 18-year employee of the City of Dallas, was named interim director of the Dallas Convention Center while the search for a permanent replacement for Frank Poe is carried out. Rojas is currently assistant director of finance and administration for the Department of Convention and Event Services. He has held positions with Reunion Arena and American Airlines Center in addition to the convention center. He is also a member of the International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM).
Rojas was involved in the restructuring of the convention center’s debt load and capital improvements plan.
City hall tapped Rojas to run operations at the convention center following Poe’s appointment this Spring as executive director of the Georgia World Congress Center Authority. He will also be a key point of contact with the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau, which will have the Dallas Omni Hotel coming on-line in 2012.
The Dallas Convention Center ranks No. 10 in Trade Show Executive’s World’s Top Convention Centers directory with 1,018,942 square feet of prime exhibit space.
