Atlanta and Las Vegas– Al Dyess is moving back to his hometown of Atlanta to become Assistant General Manager of the Georgia World Congress Center on May 2. Stepping up to the plate at GES is Fred Buonacorsi who was promoted to Executive VP of Operations – West Region. Buonacorsi also retains responsibility for GES’ Logistics operation.
Dyess succeeds Mark Zimmerman, who was promoted to GWCC General Manager last fall. Al’s roots in the trade show industry extend back 20 years, starting with United Exposition Services in Atlanta. During the past 12 years, he was Operations Manager for GES Exposition Services, then its General Manager, Regional VP, and most recently Senior Executive VP of the western region in Las Vegas. As Assistant GM, Dyess will manage the operations of the nation’s fourth largest convention center.
“Al’s background in this industry is a great fit for our facility,” said Dan Graveline, GWCC Executive Director. “The convention and trade show industry is competitive and Al’s extensive knowledge of the exhibition business will help Atlanta maintain its competitive edge.” Dyess is President-Elect of the Exhibition Services and Contractors Association (ESCA) and a member of the Exhibit Designers and Producers Association (EDPA).
Buonacorsi joined GES in October 2002 as VP of Logistics & Transportation and successfully built that line of business with record years in both 2003 and 2004, says GES President & CEO Paul Dykstra. “I am certain that his strong leadership and customer service focus will enable GES to build on our success in Las Vegas and the entire West Region,” Dykstra says. Prior to joining GES, Buonacorsi spent 25 years in the transportation industry, primarily with Consolidated Freightways, where he was Director of the Trade Show Division and Vice President of Sales for the West Region.
