Trade Show Executive Dashboard Preview: Q2 Reports Growth Rates Tapering Off

 CHICAGO — Trade Show Executive’s (TSE) Dashboard covers metrics for trade shows throughout each quarter, providing traditional measurements of net square footage (nsf), number of exhibitors and quantity of attendees. It also features highlights for each show. The Q2 Dashboard reveals a continued slowing of growth in key metric categories, following the pattern which has emerged in recent quarters, however rates remain positive overall.

The Q2 Dashboard details 66 shows in total. Net square footage expanded at 49 gatherings, 22 of which recorded double-digit growth. Number of exhibitors grew at 51 shows while 24 experienced double-digit increases. Attendees turned out in large crowds for Q2 shows, as 41 events reported jumps in total attendance and 16 had gains in double-digits. Professional attendance saw upticks at 33 shows and 15 tallied double-digit growth in that category.

Altogether, growth continued throughout shows occurring in Q2, albeit at a slower rate than previous post-COVID fiscal quarters. Throughout all Dashboard Q2 shows, nsf improved at a 3.0% rate, exhibitors rose by 4.5%, total attendance was lifted 2.2% and professional attendance climbed 0.1%. Looking back at Q1 of 2024, nsf grew by 7.0%, exhibitors by 4.3%, total attendance by 4.7% and professional attendance by 2.4%. The second quarter continued the trend from the first: a shrinking of growth percentages as many shows bounce back to pre-COVID numbers as the industry returns to business as normal. After adjusting for outliers and shows without a consecutive two-year comparison, Q2 shows occupied 8,318,710 nsf, gathered 26,264 exhibitors, and hosted 733,906 total attendees and 424,846 professional attendees in total.

Montréal Manufacturing Technology Show/Salon de la technologie de fabrication de Montréal led Q2 shows in growth across multiple metrics, as the biennial show raised its nsf by 60.5% and its number of exhibitors by 57.5%. In terms of total attendance, h+h americas saw the most significant boost with 51.4% more traffic on the show floor. Customer Contact Week Las Vegas experienced a 109.3% increase in professional attendance, the largest of all Q2 shows.
