PARIS – Enrollment has opened for the next edition of the Exhibition Management Degree (EMD) course, which will be held for the first time in Oman.
The EMD is an internationally recognized certification offered by UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibitions Industry, and will take place Jan. 26-29, 2020 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) in Muscat. Registration information is available at https://www.ufi.org/education/exhibition-management-degree/.
The EMD program consists of four modules totaling 150 hours of classroom and online education. The Omani capital, Muscat, will be the site of the first module with the other three taking place online between February and April. Graduates will join more than 500 of their colleagues around the world who have also earned their EMD over the years.
The course is open to exhibition organizers and venue managers as well as representatives of associations and government agencies. The goal is to familiarize students with international standards and practices for trade shows in order to bolster the planning and execution of events held in their respective regions.
The EMD course has been offered in Qatar and Saudi Arabia in recent years, which UFI says reflects the vibrancy of the exhibition industry in the Middle East. “In the Middle East, the industry serves 125,000 exhibiting companies at trade shows that have welcomed 6.3 million visitors while supporting more than 31,000 jobs,” says Naji El Haddad, UFI’s Middle East and Africa (MEA) Regional Manager.
“Exhibitions add $1.4 billion to the Middle East economy and there is a lot of potential to grow this further,” said Said Al Shanfari, CEO of the OCEC. “This growth depends on having qualified and educated staff and management.”
