London, England – United Business Media (UBM) is enjoying another growth spurt in South America through its acquisition of a 75% equity stake in Sienna Interlink, a Brazilian show organizer, which produces events serving the concrete and restaurant industries. It also acquired a 60% stake in Navalshore, the leading trade show for the maritime industry in Brazil.
Sienna Interlink’s Concrete Show South America is the main asset of Sienna Interlink. The 2010 show at the Transamerica Expo Center in Sao Paulo August 25-27 is expected to draw 20,000 attendees and sell 33,000 square meters (322,917 net square feet) of exhibit space. The other event in the Brazilian company’s portfolio is the Restaubar Show, a smaller show but the leading event for the restaurant and bar industry. The two shows together generated revenues of $4 million.
Simon Foster, CEO of UBM International Media, said acquiring Sienna Interlink and the share of Navalshore boosted UBM’s presence in Brazil, a nation with a growing economy and a construction industry that will receive a boost from preparations for the 2014 World Cup soccer tournament and the 2016 Olympics. “Concrete Show South America is a terrific addition to our portfolio of Brazilian trade shows and is set to benefit greatly from the substantial investment in infrastructure construction taking place across the region,” Foster said. “The business also provides us with an established and successful platform from which to launch new products in South American markets.”
Navalshore was launched in 2004 and drew 12,600 attendees and 250 exhibitors in 2009. This year’s show will be held August 11-13 at the SulAmérica Convention Center in Rio de Janeiro. The show is organized by the trade publisher Editora Quebra-Mar Ltda., with the backing of three Brazilian maritime industry associations.
UBM got a foothold in South America in 1994 when it opened its UBM Brazil subsidiary. Its portfolio in the region has grown too more than 80 events in food, transportation, pharmaceuticals and other sectors. The show roster includes Intermodal South America, Hi South America Summit and P-Mec South America.
