WASHINGTON, D.C. — There has been positive momentum on Capitol Hill for key pieces of legislation impacting the business events industry.
Supported by the Exhibitions and Conferences Alliance (ECA), the House Committee on Ways & Means’ “One Big, Beautiful Bill” was advanced in the House of Representatives. This bill would retain the current tax treatment of private investments, business profits and association events. It would also change Section 529 college savings programs into career savings programs.
Additionally in the House of Representatives, the House Committee on Education & the Workforce has advanced the “Student Success and Taxpayer Savings Plan,” which would expand the Pell Grant program to pay for high-quality short-term skilled workforce training.

Both of these pieces of legislation have been on the radar for ECA, as it advocates for the industry’s interests and competitiveness, in a year where tariffs, travel, taxes and talent are the big four focuses for the organization.
“The House of Representatives has taken two big steps forward toward ensuring our industry’s collective ability to drive economic growth, support job creation, and empower small businesses into the future,” stated Tommy Goodwin, Executive Vice President of ECA. “These issues will be front and center on ECA Legislative Action Day on May 29, where industry leaders and advocates will encourage Congress to keep the positive momentum going.”
