TSEA’s Michael Bandy Elected Chairman of the Convention Industry Council

RENEE DIIULIO, SENIOR EDITOR

McLean, VA – Michael Bandy, President of the Trade Show Exhibitors Association (TSEA), has been elected Chairman of the Convention Industry Council (CIC). His appointment marks the first time that an individual directly representing exhibitors has been selected to lead the CIC. “It’s gratifying to be in this position,” says Bandy. “In the past few years, exhibitors have become more empowered, and my appointment is indicative of this change in the industry.”

Formed in 1949, the CIC’s member organizations include ASAE, IAEM, PCMA, IACVB and 27 others who work together to promote the meeting, convention and exhibition industries. These member organizations represent more than 98,000 individuals as well as 15,000 firms and properties. CIC is noted for its CMP Program (Certified Meeting Professional); its Hall of Leaders Awards; and APEX, the Accepted Practices Exchange.

The council recently reorganized its governance structure and instituted new bylaws, which Bandy aims to implement. “Each member organization now has a vote, and it’s my goal to make sure everyone understands the new rules and their responsibilities.”

Bandy  says he is looking forward to moving the APEX program ahead. The initiative is ready to move from its development stage into implementation.

Bandy, who previously served as the CIC’s Treasurer and Vice Chairman, is joined in leading the CIC by Thomas Mobley, Jr., General Manager and CEO of the Washington (D.C.) Convention Center, who is CIC’s Vice Chair; Colin Rorrie, PhD, CAE, President/CEO of Meeting Professionals International (MPI), CIC’s Secretary/Treasurer; and Brenda Anderson, CEO of the Society of Incentive Travel Executives (SITE), the CIC’s Delegate-at-Large.
