TSE Earns Six Awards, Including Two Golds, from Business Press Editors

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Oceanside, CA – Trade Show Executive (TSE) received a half dozen Azbee Awards from the American Society of Business Press Editors (ASBPE) for articles and directories published last year. The editors and creative director of TSE received two gold, two bronze and one silver award in the national competition, plus one Western regional award. The awards were presented July 30 at an ASBPE ceremony in Oak Brook, IL.

“We are very honored to receive these six awards from one of the most competitive and respected award programs for journalists in the nation,” said Darlene Gudea, president of Trade Show Executive Media Group. “I am proud of my team of high achievers at Trade Show Executive. This is not just a job for them. They put in the extra effort, day in and day out, to uncover and share important information with trade show professionals, all with the goal of making a difference in the trade show industry. These awards are the proverbial icing on the cake.”

TSE’s Convention Center Directory Named Top Buyers’ Guide
The 2012 edition of TSE’s annual World’s Top Convention Centers (WTCC) directory was the winner of the Gold Award in the “Annual Buyers Guide” category. The WTCC was produced by a team including TSE President Darlene Gudea; Manager of Directories Carri Jensen; Senior Editor Renee Diiulio; and Creative Director Kathleen Maloney.

Registration Supplement Wins the Gold; Gold 100 Directory Wins the Bronze
TSE took two of the three awards in the “Special Supplement” category. TSE received its second Gold Award for “Going Mobile:  Shake Hands with the Future of Registration,” which was written by Editor-at-Large Danica Tormohlen and designed by Creative Director Kathleen Maloney.

TSE also won an award for a directory about awards. The 2012 TSE Gold 100 directory is a compilation of detailed metrics and analysis about trade show Gold 100 award winners and received a Bronze Award in the “Special Supplement” category. The award-winning directory was published in October and was the work of President Darlene Gudea; Editor-at-Large Carol Andrews; Manager of Directories Carri Jensen; Senior Editor Hil Anderson; and Creative Director Kathleen Maloney.

Eye-Catching Artwork
Kathleen Maloney also received a Silver Award for the  cover art of the World’s Top Convention Center directory and a Bronze Award in “Opening Page/Spread – Computer Generated” for Tech Trek in the February 2012 issue.

Impeccable Investigative Feature
A Western Regional Award in the “Impact/Investigative Feature” category was presented to Editor-at-Large Danica Tormohlen and Creative Director Kathleen Maloney for “On the Margin — An In-Depth Look at Financial Benchmarks for the Top 20 Association Shows.”  Published in the December 2012 issue, the nine-page feature examined the revenue figures, revenue streams, profit margins and other financial figures for 20 of the largest trade shows in the United States.

The Azbee Awards of Excellence program is one of the highest forms of recognition for journalists in B-to-B print and online media. The awards, in 60+ categories, recognize outstanding work by magazines, newsletters and digital media. The only other event media which emerged as winners were Exhibitor magazine, with numerous awards,  and Collinson Media’s Collaborate. Winning magazines serving other sectors included the venerable Automotive News, ComputerworldArchitect, REALTOR, Plastics News, and others.
