Trade Show Executive Dashboard Preview: Positive Momentum Continues Through Q4 of 2023

CHICAGO —Trade Show Executive’s (TSE) quarterly Dashboard is a key resource for trade show organizers, providing traditional metrics for measuring the growth of shows such as net square footage (nsf), number of exhibitors, quantity of attendees and professional attendees and other accomplishments across the industry. Analysis of shows which took place in Q4 of 2023 indicates significant gains to close out the year. Of the 71 shows that appear in the Q4 Dashboard, 57 experienced growth in nsf. Triple-digit nsf growth was achieved by one show while 31 grew by double-digits.

Sixty events expanded in the exhibitor metric, with two growing by triple-digits and 33 improving by double-digits. Overall attendance made gains at 53 gatherings, four of which grew by triple-digits and 33 of which managed double-digit growth. Professional attendees were found in higher numbers at 43 trade shows, with four events notching triple-digit gains and 26 recording double-digit percentage upticks.

Aggregating the data for all Q4 events showed strong improvements as nsf increased by 7.8%, the number of exhibitors grew by 7.6%, total attendance improved by 6.7% and professional attendance rose by 5.3%. Excluding outliers and shows without a consecutive two-year comparison, Q4 trade shows recorded a robust 10,215,189 nsf filled with 29,709 exhibiting companies and assembled 1,010,897 attendees in total, 623,609 of whom were categorized as professional attendees.

The largest trade Q4 trade show by nsf was Equip Exposition. Organized by the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute and held at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, the event featured 1,269,938 nsf as well as 876 exhibitors, and 27,245 attendees. The most heavily attended gathering was SEMA Show, organized by the Specialty Equipment Market Association. A total of 141,083 attendees descended upon the Las Vegas Convention Center to experience the event, which occupied 1,113,131 nsf and had 2,243 exhibiting companies.
