Tornadoes Miss Dallas Convention Venues

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Dallas, TX – Tornadoes tore through the Dallas area April 3 but an early damage assessment showed the area’s convention centers and industry associations weathered the storm.

The Dallas Morning News said Aviation Week MRO Americas, an aviation conference at the Dallas Convention Center was abruptly halted when a tornado warning was issued and the attendees were hustled to the building’s lower level to wait out the storm.

The convention center was not damaged and the nearby Arlington Convention Center apparently also survived unscathed despite being in the vicinity of suburban areas that took the brunt of the foul weather.

Representatives of Freeman and the International Association of Exhibitions and Events told Trade Show Executive their employees and facilities were all safe.

Air travel through the hub Dallas-Fort Worth Airport was brought to a halt for much of the day.
