Oceanside, CA – Tony Calanca, executive vice president of Advanstar Communications, Inc., has joined the Trade Show Executive Exposition Forecasting Board (EFB) and will contribute his knowledge and insights to TSE beginning with its January issue.
TSE’s monthly Trending and Spending column features the forecasts of some of the leading organizers and service firms in the exposition industry. The EFB board members look at data from a wide range of shows including exhibitor contracts and re-sign rates, new business, registration levels and pacing, revenue increases and declines, etc. Their informed opinions provide a future economic snapshot of the trade show industry on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. “Trade Show Executive’s Exposition Forecasting Board members have a strong track record in predicting future shifts in trade show growth, from declines to growth,” said Darlene Gudea, president of Trade Show Executive Media Group. “Their forecasts have assisted show managers with the difficult task of peering into the future and making budget decisions based on where the industry is likely headed. The Trending and Spending column is the most highly rated column in TSE, thanks to their expertise and valuable input.”

Calanca’s career spans more than 30 years. He joined Advanstar in 2006 and is responsible for Advanstar’s Fashion, Licensing, Life Sciences, Powersports and Automotive groups, including the flagship MAGIC shows. Prior to joining Advanstar, he was a senior vice president of Reed Exhibitions and co-founded the boutique organizing firm Infinity Expo Group.
Advanstar, one of the largest show organizers in the U.S. is in the process of being acquired by UBM plc. The $972 million deal is expected to close by the end of the year.
