LONDON — Informa Markets has bought Tarsus Group from private equity firm Charterhouse Capital Partners for $940 million.

In a statement, Informa Group CEO, Stephen Carter said, “We have long admired the Tarsus business which, like Informa, has been built around major brands in attractive, specialist B2B markets in the growing regions of Asia, China, the Middle East and the Americas.”

The acquisition was funded with cash and $210m of new Informa shares. Tarsus Group was a publicly listed company on the London Stock Exchange before it was bought by Charterhouse in 2019.

Douglas Emslie, CEO of Tarsus Group, will become a senior advisor to the Informa Group through the Combination Programme, guiding on talent, brands and partnerships.

Informa says the joint combination program will have three key objectives by January 2024:

Deliver: Maximize 2023 performance, minimizing disruption and distraction in what is a key year of return, growth and acceleration for Live B2B Events;

Discover: Make growth-focused people, brand and business combination decisions;

Combine: Ensure the portfolios enter 2024 successfully, operating as one company under the Informa brand.

Informa COO Mark Temple-Smith will step in as Executive Chair of Tarsus from completion through to the end of the Combination Program in January 2024. Temple-Smith served as the CEO of Asia for Tarsus.

“Tarsus is a fantastic business with exceptional people, strong customer relationships and market-leading brands,” Temple-Smith said. “It’s a business that will always have a place in my heart since my time as CEO of the Tarsus Asia business – and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the team in achieving a successful combination with Informa. The combination brings a great deal of opportunity for both businesses, from cross-marketing, digital expansion and new product launches. Together, we look forward to delivering enhanced value for customers.”

In 2023, Tarsus full year revenues are estimated to be more than £175m ($208,526,500 USD). Completion is expected by July 1, 2023.
