Washington – The Convention Industry Council (CIC) has retained SmithBucklin to provide management services as the CIC expands its membership and educational offerings.
SmithBucklin will provide a full range of services to CIC, including assisting with the move of CIC’s headquarters staff into new digs in downtown Washington.
“The (SmithBucklin) staff is well-qualified to support critical areas such as the domestic and global expansion of the Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) credential, APEX standard-setting, and major events such as the Hall of Leaders,” said CIC Chair Susan Robertson. “And SmithBucklin’s solid services in the areas of marketing and branding, IT and website development are essential for taking CIC to the next level.”
Karen Kotowski will join SmithBucklin while remaining in her role as CEO of CIC during and after CIC’s move to 2025 M St,m N.W. in April. “CIC’s plans for the future will really impact how people are engaging and finding value in the meetings community,” Kotowski said. “I am so happy to be part of the SmithBucklin team so that we can make these plans a reality.”
CIC has grown in recent years to 33 member organizations representing more than 103,500 individuals and 19,500 firms and properties. It’s CMP certification has become a mark of professional excellence worldwide. When Robertson and the rest of the board was sworn in last Fall, Robertson pledged to expand CIC’s capacity in 2017 through “a refreshed brand along with new strategic directions.”
“Top priorities include increasing community engagement, and building on programs that define, set standards for and promote the professionalization of our industry,” Robertson said.
