SISO Opens its Doors to Association Execs at August Conference

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Chicago, IL – Association executives have been invited to attend the upcoming Society of Independent Show Organizers (SISO) Executive Conference in New York this summer, an event that was formerly open only to for-profit show organizers.

SISO says the invitation is being extended on a trial basis and reflects a growing relationship between independent show organizers and organizers employed by associations. While SISO was founded in 1990 as a forum for the for-profit show-organizer, a recent membership survey showed a 3% increase in the number of SISO members who produce events for associations and publishers.

“Although there is a different tax structure between events produced by SISO members and association organizers, the mission is the same – to produce the best possible trade show or conference,” said Sean Guerre, president of the TradeFair Group and chairman of the SISO Executive Conference.  “We all have a lot to learn from each other.”

The SISO Executive Conference will take place Aug. 1-3 at the New York Sheraton. Registration fees for associations will be the same as for other nonmembers of SISO: $499 for the first person, $399 for the second person, and $299 for multiple registrations. The exclusive SISO CEO Forum held every April will continue to be an invitation-only event.

“The networking opportunities available at the SISO Executive Conference will give for-profits and not-for-profits the opportunity to share ideas, discover synergies and perhaps do business together,” said Mary Beth Rebedeau, SISO Executive Director.

SISO  has 180 member companies who produce over 3,000 events annually.
