SIA Snow Show Opens With David Ingemie Saying He Will Step Down in 2016

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Denver, CO – David Ingemie, long-time president of the SnowSports Industries America (SIA), which organizes the annual SIA Snow Show, will step down next year.

The SIA said Ingemie would leave at the end of the 2016 SIA Snow Show, capping a 34-year run as president. This year’s show for the ski and snowboard equipment industry runs January 28-February 1 at the Denver Convention Center and then moves into the mountains for hands-on equipment demonstrations on February 2-3.

Ingemie joined SIA as marketing director in 1976 and took over as president in 1981. “I feel so fortunate to have been a part of an industry that represents one of my life’s greatest passions – snow sports,” Ingemie said. “It has been a great run.”

The SIA Snow Show was ranked 52nd on the most recent Trade Show Executive (TSE) Gold 100 with 340,275 net square feet of exhibit space in 2013. A 10.7% increase in the number of exhibitors at the same show earned Snow Show a spot on the TSE Fastest 50. Ingemie was named a “Trade Leader and Legend” by Trade Show Executive in 2012 and was featured in the Power Lunch cover story for the November 2012 issue.

The SIA Board of Directors said Ingemie informed them of his decision back in May 2014. The board launched a transition plan that includes a search for a replacement and an updated strategic plan for the association. Ingemie’s successor will come aboard in June and formally take over as president at the conclusion of the 2016 Snow Show. Ingemie will remain with the SIA as immediate past president and will be in charge of a project involving the SIA archives.
