Show Execs to Court Congress at IAEE’s Exhibitions Day

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Dallas, TX – Trade show organizers are invited to Washington this Summer to meet and greet members of Congress at IAEE’s Exhibitions Day.

The International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) has been a leader in publicizing the value of trade shows, conventions and meetings to the U.S. economy, and is launching Exhibitions Day on June 16-17 as a means of taking that message straight to the capital in Washington, DC.

“This is an important move into the world of advocacy for IAEE and a great opportunity for members to participate in the political process,” said Skip Cox, IAEE chairperson. “With the involvement of industry members, our elected officials will come to understand what is at stake for our industry and economy we support.”

Exhibitions Day will be held at the Capitol Hilton just off K Street. Show organizers and association executives will have the opportunity to do some lobbying of their own with lawmakers and other federal officials. Trade Show Executive is an industry media partner in the event.

The issues that IAEE wants Congress and the administration to get behind include familiar issues such as the visa process, maintaining the popular International Buyers Program and easing the pennywise restrictions on travel by government employees. The face-to-face discussions with leaders of the exhibition industry will further convince elected representatives of the importance of trade shows to the national economy and the well-being of the cities and states they represent.

A formal program for Exhibitions Day is being developed by the organizing committee led by co-chairs Chris Brown, vice president, conventions & business operations for the National Association of Broadcasters, and Megan Tanel, vice president of exhibitions & events at the Association of Equipment Manufacturers.

There is no registration fee for Exhibitions Day and the Hilton is offering a special $239 rate for attendees who come in from out of town. The deadline to take advantage of the room rate is May 23.

More information on the event will be available at www.exhibitionsday.org

Trade Show Executive is one of the supporting organizations of Exhibitions Day.
