Ron Wall Joins Advanstar’s Executive Team


Santa Monica, CA – Ron Wall, who most recently served as senior vice president of publishing for Canon Communications, has joined Advanstar Communications Inc. to fill the newly created position of executive vice president, Pharmaceutical/Science. Last December, Wall stepped down from United Business Media (UBM) in the wake of UBM’s acquisition of Canon. Wall’s key responsibilities at Advanstar include integrating the company’s Center for Business Intelligence (CBI) conference business with its pharmaceutical business.

CBI, a Boston-based subsidiary of Advanstar Communications Inc., produces more than 100 high-end conferences annually serving senior executives and government officials in the fields of pharmaceuticals and biotech, medical devices, risk, and insurance and managed care markets.

Advanstar’s Pharmaceutical/Science group, based in Iselin, NJ, serves more than 700,000 pharmaceutical and laboratory professionals in the U.S. and abroad involved with the development, clinical trials, manufacturing, marketing and distribution of pharmaceuticals. “The eight publishing brands in Iselin are dominant and produce magazines, websites and webcasts for leading titles like Pharmaceutical ExecutivePharmaceutical TechnologyBioPharm International and Applied Clinical Trials, to name a few,” said Wall. “The two groups working together are a powerful set of assets.”

At Canon, Wall’s achievements included delivering revenue increases in digital media, webcasts, e-newsletters and the launch of QMED. Prior to joining Canon in 2007, Wall served as executive vice president of sales and marketing for Ascend Media, a company he invested in and founded in 2003. Wall also spent 25 years at Intertec Publishing, a Primedia Company, holding various positions, including president.

I gained extensive experience and knowledge of the large pharmaceutical market while at Ascend through our Medical Education and Healthcare Event divisions. At Canon, I built a digital department that went from a staff of six and roughly 8% of total revenue, to a staff of 20+ and revenues that were over 35% of total Canon publishing revenue, including a consolidated Audience MasterFile. My experience and the strong Advanstar products in both conferences and publishing brands are a perfect fit.”
