Reed Acquires Organizer of Alternative Energy Show in Scotland

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Aberdeen, Scotland – Reed Exhibitions acquired Media Generation Events Ltd., organizers of All-Energy and other alternative-energy trade shows.

The deal is the latest acquisition Reed has made in the energy sector. The company earlier this year acquired Multiplus Fairs and Events, a leading organizer of ethanol and other bio-fuel events in Brazil.

“Acquiring All-Energy is an important step in securing our position in the UK’s alternative energy market, and is a key strategic element in our global renewable energy strategy,” said Justin Tadman, divisional managing director for Reed.

All-Energy is the flagship of Media Generations Events. The company’s majority stockholder was the Qatar MICE Development Institute. Reed said Judith Patten, a co-founder and project director of All-Energy, will remain with the show.

All-Energy is held annually in the Scottish oil city of Aberdeen. The May 18-19 show reported a 35% increase in exhibit space this year to 6,500 net square meters (69,955 net square feet), 580 exhibitors from 20 nations and nearly 8,000 attendees. No major changes were announced for the 12th edition of the show May 23-24, 2012.

“We’re very happy with the growth of the show, which has been consistent over the last three years,” said Event Manager Jamie Thompson. “This of course represents the fabulous potential within the renewable energy sector.”

Thompson told Trade Show Executive she and her team are working with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce branch office in London to establish a pavilion for American companies at next year’s show.
