BANGKOK — The September debut of Bangkok’s new Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) helped place Thailand at the epicenter of the region’s trade show industry. The QSNCC is five times bigger than the original venue, which dates back more than 30 years, and now boasts 300,000 square meters (more than 3.2 million square feet) of space including almost 78,500 square meters (845,000 square feet) of exhibition space.

Thanks to the extensive expansion, which lets QSNCC host multiple events simultaneously, there is a buzz among trade show organizers ready to book the versatile venue. Events and trade shows are already booked from now through 2023, including the prestigious APEC Economic Leaders’ Week to be held this November 14-19. Reservations for hosting events at QSNCC comprises 60% international traders and 40% local organizers.

Another trade show taking advantage of the new center is the ASEAN APLF 2022 (Leather Fair), which is moving from its former location of Hong Kong to QSNCC. The show is being held this October 19-21.

“Since the10-nation ASEAN bloc reopened for business, and with Bangkok located at its center, Thailand’s capital will become its commercial hub and restart point for APLF ASEAN 2022 to welcome back buyers from the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region,” Grace Lee, Event Director of APLF, said. “The newly renovated QSNCC, equipped with world-class exhibition facilities, is situated in central Bangkok. It is well-connected by all modes of transport and will be a highly convenient place to welcome international buyers and business travelers.”

State-of-the-Art Technology

Surrounded by glass, the new convention center offers Thailand’s high-speed infrastructure system supporting 5G, fiber optic and WiFi connections throughout, and touchless access and intelligence event platform management systems. Smart technology includes a people-counting system; a 3D stereo vision sensor to track and analyze the traffic in real-time; and smart lighting, with wireless control and LED lighting.

Show organizers will also find an ideal back-end setup to accommodate exhibitors, such as loading dock levelers that provide direct access to the exhibit hall and nearby freight elevator access to the other floors. QSNCC has a comprehensive rated and approved rigging system featuring maximum load about 11,000 pounds. The freight elevators in the loading area provide direct access to the exhibition halls on the ground floor and the first floor.

Exhibitors can also take advantage of ample space at QSNCC, which features a pillarless and seamless show floor.

“Thailand is a hub for Asia’s fast-growing fresh fruit and vegetable business and the new QSNCC is well equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, strategic location, technology and services,” David Axiotis, Executive Director of Global Produce Events (HK) Limited, said.  Asia Fruit Logistica, based in Hong Kong, will host its event at QSNCC this November 2-4.       “We believe that new QSNCC will be an ideal event platform to showcase innovation and to provide business opportunities for all exhibitors.”

QSNCC was also built to the highest level of sustainability. The central location is accessible by direct connection to Bangkok’s MRT Subway and it is also easily reached by BTS Skytrain, taxi, bus or car. The facility will be also Thailand’s first LEED Silver Certified convention center and first to be awarded Leadership in Energy and Environment.

The center used environmentally friendly construction materials, adopting 25% of recycled products and 75% of recyclable products, solar panels on its rooftop and energy-saving devices. QSNCC is also home to a large green space, Benjakitti Park.

“The new QSNCC is situated at the heart of Bangkok and easy to access from all transportation as a city center. It allows exhibitors and visitors for a hassle-free commute to the venue,” Sanchai Noombunnam, Country General Manager, Thailand of Informa Markets, said. Informa Markets is bringing its upcoming Jewellery & Gem ASEAN Bangkok 2023 show from Singapore to the QSNCC. “QSNCC is at the forefront of sustainability and is mindful of our impact on the environment and community which aligns with Informa Markets’ business and show commitments.”
