ProPak Enjoying Summer Run in the Asian Market

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

BANGKOK — The Asian packaging industry is continuing its upward momentum as evidenced with strong performances by UBM’s ProPak shows in Asia this year.

ProPak China presented a show-record 80,000 gross square-meter (861,113-square-foot) exhibit floor during its July 11-13 run at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. More than 1,000 exhibitors from around the world were on hand to conduct business with a projected crowd of about 35,000 attendees coming in from China and other integral parts of the Asian market.

The crowd represented a range of industries seeking packaging solutions made of paper, plastic and other rigid or non-rigid materials and designs. The packaging industry worldwide is projected to reach $1 trillion in sales by 2020.

The show featured three co-located events catering to the food processing industry and was organized by UBM CIE, the Shanghai branch of ALLWORLD Exhibitions, which became part of UBM in 2016. The ProPak brand is now in the hands of Informa following its acquisition of rival UBM.

Before moving on to Shanghai, the ProPak team concluded another record-setting show held in Thailand. ProPak Asia, held June 13-16 at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre, expanded its exhibits into a ninth hall this year and set new marks with 58,000 sm (624,306 sf) of total exhibit space and 1,581 exhibitors from 44 countries. Attendance featured 48,799 buyers, up 9.2% from last year, and included a 10.8% jump in international visitors.

“The Asian region is still a strong growth driver for the processing and packaging industries, and ProPak Asia is a hub that brings many facets of regional industry and global technologies together on one show floor,” said Justin Pau, General Manager of UBM Asia (Thailand) Co., Ltd. “We received great feedback from exhibitors, and many have already committed to participating next year.”

Meanwhile, the ProPak banner moves on to regional shows in India late next month, followed by Myanmar in September.
