PMMI Teams with Koelnmesse and Dairy Association

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Reston, VA – PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, will launch a new biennial trade show for the food packaging sector in a partnership with a major trade association and Germany’s Koelnmesse.

ProFood Tech will take place April 4-6, 2017, at McCormick Place in Chicago and will highlight sellers from a myriad of vertical niches within the food and beverage packaging sector. The stand-alone event is currently not co-located with any of the other well known packaging shows produced by PMMI or Koelnmesse.

“We saw that there was a need for a dedicated event that brings buyers together with the leading manufacturers in the worldwide food and beverage industry,” said PMMI President and CEO Charles Yuska.

Yuska said the new show “will be that one-stop shop featuring exhibits from large companies that serves several customer segments and smaller niche companies with a focus on more specific needs.”

PMMI organizes the thriving PACK Expo portfolio, including PACK Expo International, which last year covered more than 1.2 million net square feet (nsf) of exhibit space. ProFood Tech will be held on alternating years with PACK Expo International.

Koelnmesse currently organizes the Anuga and Anuga Food Tec in Germany for the food processing industry. Gerald Bose, president and CEO of Koelnmesse, said ProFood Tech was an appealing event for their European customers. “ProFood Tech marks a further logical step in Koelnmesse’s strategy aimed at offering expert support to customers in various target markets in our role as a global service provider,” he said.

Joining PMMI and Koelnmesse on the ProFood Tech team is the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), which represents about 85% of North American dairy product manufacturers. The IDFA produces the biennial International Dairy Show at McCormick Place, which opened September 15-18 with more than 300,000 nsf of exhibit space. The show features two co-located events: PROCESS EXPO, organized by the Food Processing Suppliers Association, and InterBev, which is run by another German organizer; Nurnbergmesse Group.
