Irving, TX – Alan Peterson, a 20-year industry veteran who most recently served as vice president of Penton Media’s New Hope Natural Media trade shows, has joined Hanley Wood Exhibitions (HWE) in the newly created position of vice president. He will be responsible for developing and maintaining the company’s sales processes and driving profitable revenue growth. Peterson will report directly to Rick McConnell, president of HWE. Peterson left Penton last October, citing personal reasons.
Peterson will oversee sales initiatives for the Hanley Wood Exhibitions portfolio of 14 trade shows, including World of Concrete, Surfaces and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) National Convention and Design Exposition. In addition to his sales role, Peterson will also have overall management responsibilities for the AIA National Convention and Design Exposition, which HWE produces for AIA.
At Penton, Peterson had been top executive of the New Hope portfolio that included the Natural Products Expo brand in the organic and healthy products sectors. Natural Products Expo West/Supply Expo was No. 55 on the Trade Show Executive Gold 100 last year after its 2009 show at the Anaheim Convention Center reached 329,850 net square feet (nsf). Its sister show, Natural Products Expo East/Organic Products Expo-BioFach America, took place in Boston and was No. 99 on the Gold 100 at 152,600 nsf.
Before joining Penton in 2006, Peterson was owner of Collaborative Service Group. Prior to establishing his own company, he was partner in Davis Peterson Collaborative, LLC, which launched, owned and managed the Luxury Kitchen and Bath Collection and a number of other events. Peterson also worked at Miller Freeman as the group director of the Building Group, with overall profit and loss responsibilities for the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS), the Wood Technology Clinic & Show, Multi-Housing World Conference & Expo and the Sunbelt Builders Show, as well as KBB and Multi-Housing News magazines.
